Magical Winter, 2027
ORCAS, HUSKIES & NORTHERN LIGHTS IN NORTHERN NORWAY IN WINTER
Experience magical days and nights on the Cape Race, in the Nordic winter and with a German-speaking tour guide. Whether majestic humpback or killer whales, otters or sea eagles, the polar night with its mystical northern lights, the aurora borealis, or a day in Tromsø – you will enjoy 8 days aboard this small expedition ship in deep, icy fjords and romantic fishing villages.
Optionally, we offer a four–day stay at the Malangen Resort following the voyage on the Cape Race. On the island of Uløya, you will learn about the traditions of the Sami people and explore the vastness of the northern lands on a husky sled ride. And in the evenings, enjoy the great silence of the north – under the dancing veils of light of the aurora borealis.
DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN TROMSØ
Your trip to Norway begins with your arrival in Tromsø, about 350 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle.
DAY 2: DAY IN TROMSØ
Today you will explore Tromsø, the ‘Paris of the North’, with its famous Arctic Cathedral, the exciting Polar Museum, which documents the history of expeditions into the ice, or take a cable car trip up to Fjellheisen with breathtaking views over the icy fjord landscape. You will spend the first night in an upscale mid-range hotel (Radisson Blu or similar). In the late afternoon of the following day, we will welcome you aboard the Cape Race. We will introduce you to the ship and crew, you can freshen up in your cabin or enjoy the cosy saloon, and, depending on the weather, the captain will give the signal to set sail.
DAY 3 – DAY 8: NORTHERN NORWAY’S FJORDS
We follow humpback whales, fin whales and schools of orcas in the fjords as they hunt for shoals of herring. Their blows guide us, as does the rain-like sound of the herring shoals when there is no wind. Accompanied by the dancing northern lights over the snow-covered mountains, we glide through the fjords, anchoring or mooring at picturesque locations such as Reinfjord, Hamnes or Spildra, depending on the route. The silence on the deck of the ship – perhaps under the northern lights, exciting visits to the bridge, evenings in the stove-heated saloon with the sound of a well-tuned piano, visits to the on-board sauna, short evening walks along the coast or an excellent meal become unforgettable moments. Sometimes sea eagles appear above the slopes.
In the early hours of the morning, the first light colours the snow-covered peaks golden, while a fine mist lies over the water. Along the way, we encounter small fishing boats hauling in their night’s catch and hear stories from the people who have lived here for generations in tune with nature.
Life on board follows a quiet rhythm – cameras are always at the ready when the next whale appears or the Northern Lights dance over the shadow of the mast again. Every day becomes a discovery, every evening a quiet celebration of light, nature and community.
DAY 9: TROMSØ
Back in Tromsø. Return flight or optional extension programme.
OPTIONAL EXTENSION PROGRAMME – RELAXATION IN NORTHERN NORWAY
Extend your expedition in one of the cosy hotels around Tromsø. Nestled between snow-capped mountains and deep blue fjords, these accommodations offer the perfect place to reflect on the impressions of your cruise. Whether at the stylish Malangen Resort, the exclusive Arctic Panorama Lodge on the island of Uløya or the charming Sommarøy Arctic Hotel, enjoy Nordic hospitality, regional cuisine and spectacular views of Arctic nature.
You can choose between various activities: experience the winter landscape on a snowshoe hike or dog sled ride, see the Northern Lights far away from artificial lighting, or simply relax in the sauna with a view of the fjord. Your stay begins after disembarkation with a transfer from Tromsø to the hotel. Accommodation is usually half board and can be extended individually. On the last day, after breakfast, there is a return transfer to Tromsø.
