NEW YEAR'S EVE IN THE MAGIC OF THE NORTHERN LIGHTS, 2027

The planned itinerary

Ice and wind determine the daily schedule of the expedition. The itineraries mentioned here are therefore exemplary.

DAY 1 & DAY 2: TROMSØ
After arriving 350 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle, explore Tromsø, the ‘Paris of the North’, with its famous Arctic Cathedral, the exciting Polar Museum, which documents the history of expeditions into the ice, or take a cable car ride up to Fjellheisen for breathtaking views over the icy fjord landscape. You will spend the first night in an upscale mid–range hotel (Radisson Blu or similar). On the afternoon of the following day, we will welcome you aboard the Cape Race. We will introduce you to the ship and crew, you can freshen up in your cabin or enjoy the cosy saloon, and, depending on the weather, the captain will give the signal to set sail.

DAY 3 – DAY 8: NORTHERN NORWAY’S FJORDS
We follow humpback and fin whales as well as schools of orcas in the fjords as they hunt for shoals of herring. Their blows guide us, as does the rain-like sound of the herring shoals when there is no wind. Accompanied by the dancing northern lights over the snow-covered mountains, we glide through the fjords, anchoring or mooring at picturesque locations such as Reinfjord, Hamnes or Spildra, depending on the route. The silence on the deck of the ship – perhaps under the northern lights – exciting visits to the bridge, evenings in the stove-heated saloon with the sound of a well-tuned piano, visits to the on-board sauna, short evening walks along the coast or an excellent meal will become unforgettable moments. Celebrate a truly festive and peaceful Christmas on board, with the Northern Lights shining over the fjord or fine snow falling, and the stove and piano spreading cosiness throughout the saloon.

DAY 9: TROMSØ
Return flight or transfer to Malangen Resort.

Optional follow-up programme at Malangen Lodge

The tasteful and modern Malangen Resort is located on the south-eastern shore of the Malangen Fjord, about an hour’s drive from Tromsø. The hotel offers fantastic views of the fjord and mountains, and Arctic wildlife and the aurora borealis can often be observed directly from here. Experience the nature of Northern Norway through various winter activities, relax at the resort after your return and enjoy the view of the fjord.

Day 1: Tromsø – Malangen Resort
After disembarking from the Cape Race, you will be transferred to Malangen Resort. Malangen Resort is located at one of the best Northern Lights hotspots in the Tromsø area. The ‘guardian’ gives guests the opportunity to see the mysterious Northern Lights. We begin the magical journey with an orientation about the natural phenomenon and the prevailing Northern Lights conditions before driving to our own base camp, Camp Nikka, which is only a 20-minute walk from the resort.

Day 2: Snowshoe hike
This exciting and informative tour combines the joys of snowshoeing in the snow–covered forest with practical and fascinating information from our knowledgeable guide.

Day 3: Dog sledding tour (weather permitting)
Experience the fantastic winter landscape on a dog sled ride. Let the dogs‘ joy infect you as you head out into the snow–covered winter landscape. Lead a team of eager huskies through the snow–covered Arctic landscape and admire the breathtaking scenery. The adventure ends with a delicious snack by the open fire.

Day 4: Malangen Resort – Tromsø – Journey home
After breakfast, transfer back to Tromsø at around 9:00 a.m.
